About Us

Charon provides operational leadership and manages social for Black Drip Coffee. He was raised in Kansas City, MO, and was born in Leominster, Massachusetts.  Charon graduated from Lincoln College Prep High School and attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City, majoring in engineering.  Charon has worked with BNSF rail for 14 years and operated four businesses, including The Porter House KC. His love for the city drives his appreciation for the community of Kansas City. Charon loves to help business owners and startups in KC by providing the tools and resources to operate their businesses efficiently. 

Daniel provides organizational leadership and direction to Black Drip Coffee. He is a native of Kansas City, MO, and graduated from Bishop Hogan High School. He has worked in both for-profit and not-for-profit sectors in the past 14 years and has started/owned/operated five businesses, including The Porter House KC. Dan's affinity for the not-for-profit sector, explicitly helping underserved populations, started roughly 20+ years ago when his mother exposed him to the importance of helping others. This experience gave him a deep appreciation for the not-for-profit work in underserved communities of color and fueled his drive to help those in need. 

Black Drip Coffee is a vibrant Kansas City-based, Black-Owned coffee wholesaler dedicated to providing coffee lovers with an extraordinary and flavorful experience. Our journey began in college, where we discovered a brotherhood that transcended business. Coming from single-parent households, we bonded deeply when we pledged our fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., in 2002. This powerful connection fueled our desire to uplift our community, empowering individuals with the resources to launch their own businesses and drive meaningful change in small entrepreneurship.

Co-founder Charon Thompson expresses, “Black Drip Coffee emerges from a profound desire to bring coffee culture to historically disenfranchised and underserved communities. As entrepreneurs, we've faced countless late nights spurred on by coffee. We thought, why not create our own? However, as newcomers to the coffee world, I quickly encountered challenges. After purchasing a roaster and some green beans, my dreams of a delightful coffee aroma turned my house into a burnt popcorn haven for weeks! This journey emphasized the importance of seeking support to bring our vision to life. I reached out to Issac Hodges on LinkedIn to guide us through the roasting process, and soon it was time for the coffee to be bagged. Our partnership with Messenger and Fairwave has been fruitful, and our bags are roasted and shipped from 27th Street Roasterie.

Our mission is to enlighten our communities about the significance of coffee culture, and this journey has cultivated a deep appreciation for the work accomplished in underserved communities of color, igniting our passion to uplift others.
